Why postcards? Two reasons!
- Reluctant writers still have something important to share, and postcards give them a simple, straightforward opportunity to do so.
- Some things are just too personal, too dangerous, or too controversial to share out loud. We all have secret wishes, regrets, and feelings we wish we could talk about. The Postcard Project gives teens and adults the opportunity to share something about themselves without worrying over their peers' responses.
A variety of postcards and prompts are available at every school, library, or organization visit, along with a portable mailbox which remains locked until the end of each month. Select anonymous postcards will be shared in upcoming issues of IDENTIFY MAGAZINE.
Modeled after PostSecret, this project hones in on the inner world. Anonymous postcards offer students and adults an opportunity for self-reflection while providing readers with a safe place to realize that, even in our introspective moments, we aren't alone. Quotes from public figures (authors, musicians, politicians, and revolutionaries) will get the conversation started.
Sample prompts include:
My favorite thing about myself is....
I lied about....
My mother never told me....
My greatest fear is....
Kids called me....
If I could change one thing about myself, it would be....
The words that changed my life are....
